Familiars are collectable companions that can be summoned to provide bonuses to your character. There are many different familiars in MapleStory, so start your collection today!
To view the Familiar window, open your character's Equipment Inventory and double-click on Roro the Familiar Manager in the bottom-left corner.
Collecting Familiars
Use a Familiar Card to add that familiar to your collection. Familiar Cards drop as loot from many mobs and bosses. Familiar Cards are also available from Familiar Booster Packs, including familiars not available elsewhere. Booster Packs can be purchased from the Familiar Shop and the Cash Shop.
The Collection tab shows all familiars currently in your collection. Click on an individual familiar to view its stats and bonuses.
Each character has 100 familiar slots by default. The number of familiar slots can be increased up to 2,500 using Familiar Slot Expansion Coupons available in the Cash Shop (Interactive worlds only).
Summoning Familiars
Familiars only provide bonuses while they are summoned. In the Setup tab, double-click on a familiar to assign it to a summoning slot. Additional summoning slots can be unlocked by collecting Badges. When you're happy with the assigned familiars, click Save.
Use the Summon Familiar skill to summon your familiars. This skill is available in the Basic tab of the Skill window. Characters must have at least one familiar assigned in the Setup tab to receive the Summon Familiars skill. Use the Summon Familiar skill again to dismiss active familiars.
Summoned familiars slowly deplete the Summon Gauge. When the Summon Gauge is empty, familiars will be dismissed and cannot be re-summoned. The Summon Gauge refills automatically at server reset time (midnight UTC) and can also be filled using the Familiar Essence item sold in the Familiar Shop.
How quickly the Summon Gauge depletes depends on the combined DEF value of all active familiars. Higher DEF causes the Summon Gauge to deplete more slowly, so it's best to summon as many familiars as possible!
Familiar Growth
Familiars can be upgraded in several important ways.
Familiar Levels:
Each familiar begins at Lv. 1 and gains EXP when mobs are defeated while the familiar is summoned. Leveling occurs automatically up to Lv. 5, and has a chance to increase the familiar's ATK and DEF.
On Interactive worlds, a Familiar Breakthrough Card can be used to increase the max level by one, up to Lv. 7. Familiar Breakthrough Cards may only be used on familiars with Unique or Legendary rank. The Familiar Breakthrough Card is available in the Cash shop.
Familiar Ranks:
Each familiar has a rank that influences which potential lines it can acquire, as well as the power level of those potentials. Familiar ranks are:
- Common
- Rare
- Epic
- Unique
- Legendary
A familiar's rank can be increased once it reaches Lv. 5 and has sufficient Rank Up points. Rank Up points are obtained by fusing multiple copies of the same familiar together. The Suspicious Fauxmiliar can also be fused with any familiar to add Rank Up points.
When the familiar is ready to Rank up, open the Collection tab and navigate to the Fusion menu. Select the familiar, then click on the Rank Up button.
Several changes occur during a Rank Up attempt.
- Familiar rank may increase. Rank Up is not guaranteed when upgrading to Epic or Unique.
- Familiar level is reset to Lv. 1 upon successful Rank Up.
- Familiar potentials are rerolled upon successful Rank Up.
- Familiar's rank up points are consumed. If Rank Up is not successful, 50% of rank up points are refunded.
This process can be repeated up to Unique rank.
Applying a Red Familiar Card also has a chance to increase the familiar's rank. You can even rank up from Unique to Legendary using this card! Red Familiar Cards are available in the Cash Shop on Interactive worlds.
Familiar Potentials:
In addition to boosting stats and dealing damage, each familiar has two potential lines that enhance characters while summoned. Potentials are an important part of the Familiar system and can provide significant benefits!
Potential lines must be identified for a small meso fee before they can be used. To identify potentials, open the Collection tab and navigate to the Info menu. Select the familiar, then click on the question mark (?) button to identify it.
Potential lines are determined randomly based on the familiar's rank. Higher ranks provide more powerful effects. Potentials are rerolled when ranking up, and can be rerolled using a Red Familiar Card available in the Cash Shop (Interactive worlds only).
Familiar Badges
Familiar Badges are earned by collecting all familiars in a set. Click on a badge to see which familiars are required. Once the set has been completed, the badge can be equipped to provide bonuses to your character. Up to eight badges can be equipped at a time.
Collecting badges also unlocks the ability to summon multiple familiars at the same time.
- 1st Familiar: Unlocked by default.
- 2nd Familiar: Earn 1 badge and complete quest [Familiar] Roro's First Update.
- 3rd Familiar: Earn 10 badges and complete quest [Familiar] Roro's Second Update.
Familiar Extraction
Have extra familiars you don't need? Turn them in to Familiar Points!
To extract familiars, open the Collections tab and navigate to the Extraction menu. Select the familiars you want to extract. The Extraction screen shows which familiars will be destroyed and displays how many Familiar Points you will receive. Higher ranked familiars reward more Familiar Points. When ready, press the Extract button to complete the process.
Note: Use care when extracting familiars, as the process cannot be reversed.
Familiar Shop
Head over to the Familiar Shop to purchase items to grow your collection, such as Roro's Familiar Boost Packs and Suspicious Fauxmiliar Coupons. These items can be purchased using Familiar Points acquired by extracting familiars.
The shop can be accessed by clicking on the Shop button in the top-right corner of the Familiar window.
